Our Goals + Proposed Nexts
Implementation of Community Engagement Plan: We are calling for a more robust, culturally-sensitive and far-reaching community engagement process than typically occurs in these types of processes to include:
Strategic Community Partnership: FABGC and other stakeholder group representatives working together with the city agency
Work together: to develop a substantive community outreach survey.
Commit to a continuous feedback loop outside of just the community board echo chamber to share updates and collect information.
Adjacent Lot 50 Acquisition: Review of Lot 50 and development of an acquisition process and funding strategy. Ancestral remains are highly to be underneath that property in particular.
Re-Interment of Ancestral Remains: At the CB14 African Burial Taskforce Meeting, it was stated that Parks had no plan or intention of re-interring the ancestral remains. This decision must be revisited.
$4Million Dollar Budget: We would like to see the budget line items for how this money is intended to be spent throughout the process.
Landmark Registration/Cultural Heritage Site Designation: Development of a pathway for city and state-level designation/preservation and review of the process at each level of the current landmark status.
Utilizing the City Council Participatory Budgeting Process: Is there still time to submit the capital budget funding project requests through the PB process to advocate for FY2024 site projects?
Detailed Project Outline: We request a detailed timeline of the various project deliverables. We acknowledge that it would be preliminary and subject to change.
Post-Project Completion Stewardship Planning: We would like to remain engaged in determining the model/plan for what happens post-project completion regarding the funding of the space for the long-term, management and programming.
